CNet News writes "Melissa Hathaway, acting cyberspace director for the White House's National Security and Homeland Security councils, has resigned from her post, citing personal reasons, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The White House press office did not immediately respond to a call seeking confirmation of her resignation, but a spokesman has offered an e-mail statement to other publications.
"We are grateful for her dedicated service and for the significant progress she and her team have made on our national cybersecurity strategy," White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said in an e-mail to the publication Federal Computer Week."

IT Pro (UK) writes "Edward Gibson, Microsoft’s chief security advisor in the UK, is more qualified than most to talk about the computer threats that we face today.
Having held special positions as a FBI Special Agent for 20 years, he was also at one time assigned to the US embassy in London, in charge of the FBI’s hi-tech cyber terrorism work in the UK.
Between 2000 and 2005, he was responsible for establishing strategic intelligence alliances between the FBI, UK police agencies, security services and private sector companies. Gibson helped launch the original national hi-tech crime unit in 2001 and worked with the Crown Prosecution Service in developing standards on how cyber crime could be prosecuted."

IT Pro (UK) writes "Adobe has released an out-of-cycle patch for its Flash Player, AIR, Reader and Acrobat software, closing more than 10 vulnerabilities that potentially left users open to attack.
It closes a recent vulnerability in Flash that was highlighted by Symantec and actively exploited in the wild. It also fixes 11 other flaws, including three that fixed problems in vulnerable Microsoft code (its Active Template Library (ATL)).
All of the fixed vulnerabilities were critical, with most having the potential to allow an attacker to take over a user’s system. Details of how to update the Adobe software can be found in its security bulletin here. Adobe is planning its next regular quarterly security update for Adobe Reader and Acrobat on 13 October."
News : Vulnerability in Apple keyboards allows key logging

Product Reviews writes "Not even a week on since we reported to you about the iPhone vulnerability via SMS that could potentially leave somebody to entirely take over your iPhone, we now have to report on another Apple vulnerability, luckily this time not for the iPhone, but instead a hardware vulnerability with the Apple Keyboards which the Digital Society website has reported.
It seems that this keyboard security flaw is not trivial, but indeed quite serious, enabling the people who exploit it to view every keystroke you make and even take over your machine and infect you with other rubbish, all that these hackers simply need do is update your keyboards firmware with a file that is smaller than 100kb and the entire hack can be performed in a frightening 18 seconds flat! And what’s worse is the fact there is no way of healing it, you simply have to throw away your keyboard. The hack can be performed on USB and Bluetooth keyboards and it seems that it is near impossible to detect, but don’t despair just yet."
